The Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel scored big this weekend at the North Market’s Grilled Cheese Throwdown!
Janel Hedgepeth of the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Banquet Team and Chef Michael Koenig of Latitude 41 Restaurant took first and second place! Both Chefs produced unique twists on the traditional favorite of grilled cheese.
Chef Janel used sourdough bread and filled it with truffle cheese and maple peppered bacon. She served the sandwich with a side savory Ohio peach jam for dipping.
Chef Michael filled his sandwich with organic American cheese and Piave cheese (Piave cheese is a soft cow’s milk cheese from the Piave River Valley in Italy) as well as rendered pork belly. The sandwich was served with a side of bourbon caramel sour cream and a side of apple honey whole grain mustard. The sandwich was grilled in bacon butter that Chef Michael churned himself!
